Link bait exposed

Did you see my story a few days ago about the kids with the dad’s credit cards and the hookers? Turns out, just as I suspected, that it was a fake story. It was a piece of link bait.
What is link bait you ask?
It’s a story, post or article that is created for the sole purposed of creating a link back to the originating site. But, not just any link, a keyword laden link. You see, Google uses how many incoming links a site has as one of its measures for a site’s popularity. The more links pointing to a site, the more popular, therefore the higher authority it has and the the higher it will turn up in search results.
That article, was some good link bait. I’m not saying that link bait is bad, but what I am saying is that when people figure out that they’ve been had, all of the links will disappear and you would’ve lost whatever credibility you had with the humans that link back to your now untrustworthy site.
The thing is, you want to create good quality articles that will create good quality links back to your site, but you want to do that with real, legitimate articles. Not useless articles that have been created for the sole purpose of generating incoming links to your site. Actually, come to think of it, it sort of sounds like what some of those automated article creation software packages do. They create a bunch of articles that are of low value to anyone. Maybe not.

Make mo money redux
Filed Under Internet Marketing, Just Wow | Leave a Comment
This is from Stephen Pierce’s podcast. Every week he puts out a podcast where he talks about new tools that he finds online that could help you with your business. All of the tools are usually free and some of them are more relevant than others, but here’s a redux from the podcast:
1) hotwords.com > what is the workd searching for? On this page, you can find information about what people are typing into the search engines and looking up.
2) tokoni.com > Life is full of stories, tell yours. This site has stories that people are telling about whatever is going on with them. Could be great for content generation, make sure you get the writer’s permission before you use their story in a product.
3) beta.twitscoop.com > tells you what’s hot on twitter. This is currently in beta, but the list of words tells you who is typing what on twitter and how many times the word comes up across the twitter network. This is currently in beta, so the results may be a bit unreliable, but it’s a good place to keep your finger on the pulse of what’s happening.
4) hotpluto.com > all video advertising marketplace. Upload videos and pics. look at how other people are using advertising. Good place to get ideas and is another place to put videos out on the web.
5) seonik.com > seo link generator, creates search engine friendly links to your site or to whatever site you’re promoting.
6) yieldbuild.com > tests different adsense layouts. Useful for getting better yield from the adsense ads that you are publishing across your sites.
7) sellitspeedy.com > fastest way to sell anything. They are trying to position themselves as an alternative to eBay and are claiming that they can sell whatever it is that you’re selling faster than eBay can.
That’s it for now. Please let me know if any of these sites help you out in anyway.
Cheers,
Rafael
