Squidoo review revisited
I wrote that review about Squidoo not being worth the hassle yesterday, or maybe it was just after midnight when it finally went “live.” In any case, when I checked my email this morning, this was waiting for me in my inbox:
Thanks for trying Squidoo.
Alas, it’s not automatic. Some people are making thousands of dollars a month from it, but it’s related to effort. Hacking around a little just doesn’t work… that’s true everywhere, not just on Squidoo.

As for your royalty statements, the reports are delayed because our income is delayed… advertisers and affiliates pay six or eight weeks after the money is earned.
Good luck to you!
PS “sucks” is a pretty strong term, no?

If y’all know anything about Squidoo, you know who Seth Godin is.
What follows here, is an open letter to Mr. Godin.
I am extremely humbled that you found my blog, and that you took the time to comment and write me about what I said. I especially appreciate that rather than attack me, you very tactfully and directly addressed the points that I was making. Thank you very much for the links and for the information about the royalty payments.
Mr. Godin, you are absolutely right. Piddling around is not going to get any results. Actually, let me rephrase that. The kinds of results that I was getting, are the kinds of results that you get when you just piddle around or you are just “hacking around a little.”
Sir, you don’t know me personally, but you’ve struck a chord within me with that statement.
Anything that is worth achieving, takes work. I did not work as diligently as I could have on my Squidoo lenses. Alas, there’s the rub. Instant gratification is not to be had.
“Sucks” is indeed a strong term, and it is not the most appropriate term either.
Here’s my new review:
Squidoo, like anything else in life, takes work. Specially if you want to be successful at it. You only get back, what you put in it. Don’t believe the people that want to tell you otherwise.
P.S.
I did ask Mr. Godin if I could reprint the text of his email, but I did not tell him what I was writing beforehand. I just thought I’d mention that.
P.P.S.
Why are my captchas still broken????

That Seth Godin, he is one remarkable guy, isn’t he?
Yes, Squidoo ‘works’….but only if you work it. I love Squidoo and have enjoyed a good bit of success working on that site.
If you have any questions, please feel free to stop by my blog (should be linked to my name up top).
Best of luck!

Squidoo does require some work, but it is also a lot of fun, and has a wonderful community. There are heaps of resources out there that can help you make better lenses, both on Squidoo and on various blogs. If you have any specific questions or problems, there are some very helpful people on the forum.
Hope you’ll stick around…

Like anything, Squidoo is what you make of it! Keep working at it, and you too can be a superstar.

The previous replies were made by really good Squidooers (Kimberly, thefluffanutta, and PotPieGirl). I am not a newbie, but I am not as good at Squidooing as they are. I have 20 lenses and I love every minute I spend working on and improving them. I have learned simple html by reading lenses and other linked sites. It is such fun. The new modules have some bugs, but -hey- that’s what makes it interesting. Squidoo is not stagnant, that’s for sure.
Every day I find something new to read on the Squidoo home page that makes me smile or even belly laugh. So far, Squidoo also seems to be a very safe place to play.
I do not create a lot of revenue (mine goes to charity), but I never expected to. I am realistic. This is not my business, this is my pastime.
I will admit, though, this past weekend I was very frustrated at the slow speed on the Squidoo lensmaster website. I am assuming that there was some maintenance going on.
Keep giving Squidoo a chance.
